Patna (Bihar) [India], July 26 (ANI): Amid the Opposition’s protest in Parliament over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in poll-bound Bihar, Union Minister Chirag Paswan has defended the exercise, saying that no injustice will be done to any Indian citizen.
“No injustice will be done to any citizen of the country, but if someone is an infiltrator in the country, they will not be allowed to misuse the greatest right, the right to vote,” Chirag Paswan told reporters in Patna on Friday.
“This process is not happening for the first time in the country; it has happened four times before, and this time it is being conducted in the same manner as it was done the previous four times,” he added.
The ongoing Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls in Bihar has erupted a massive row in the country, with the opposition INDIA bloc alleging that it will delete a significant chunk of voters.
On Friday, several opposition parliamentarians in the Rajya Sabha moved Suspension of Business notices, urging a discussion on the SIR during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned on Friday amid sloganeering by Opposition members. The Parliament has witnessed frequent adjournments for the last four days since it began on July 21.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Shatrughan Sinha on Friday slammed the exercise.
Speaking to ANI, Shatrughan Sinha said, “Why was SIR brought? The vote looting happening in Maharashtra is being repeated in Bihar as they know they are losing. Their partner in this is the Election Commission officers…”
Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Friday alleged that the Election Commission of India is “working as a branch” of the Bharatiya Janata Party and such a thing has “never taken place in the history of India.
“Such a thing has never happened in the history of India. The Election Commission, which is a constitutional body, is working as a branch of the BJP. CEC speaks like a spokesperson of the BJP… In 24 hours, the number of untraceable voters has gone from over 11000 to more than 1 lakh… If the Home Ministry is trying to say that there are 56 lakh illegal voters in Bihar, where did they come from?…” (ANI).
