Nadia (West Bengal) [India], July 17 (ANI): The vigilant jawans of Border Security Force (BSF) arrested an Indian smuggler with 9 gold bricks and 21 gold biscuits while attempting to smuggle the gold by throwing the consignment over the fence. The consignment weighed around 7.87 kg and was valued at Rs 5.82 crore, said BSF in an official statement.

According to the BSF, based on the intelligence received, the BSF laid a special ambush in the suspicious area. Around 8:35 a.m. when several suspicious individuals were seen approaching from Bangladesh near the fencing, the jawans prepared for action. When the Bangladeshi smugglers threw the gold over the wire fencing, the jawans swiftly apprehended the Indian smuggler as he tried to collect the consignment.
Despite the Jawans’ efforts to capture the Bangladeshi smugglers, they managed to flee across the international border into Bangladesh, taking advantage of the darkness, thick bushes, and jute plantations.
Nine gold bricks of various sizes and 21 gold biscuits, wrapped in six packets, were recovered from the arrested smuggler. The total weight of the seized gold is approximately 7.87 kg, with an estimated value of Rs 5.82 crore.
The arrested person is identified as Mathur Das (changed name), village Gede (North Majherpada). During the initial interrogation, he said that he works for Sanatan Biswas, a resident of his village and today he had come to collect the gold on his request. He also admitted that he had done similar work earlier as well. For which he gets good money.
The arrested person was handed over to DRI, Kolkata, along with the seized material. (ANI)
